Religious Education and Collective Worship

Religious Education at Muxton Primary School

What our children say about Muxton:

” I like that we get to learn about and show respect for the different religions.”- Year 4

“I like that we learn about celebrations and get to celebrate Jesus.”- Year 1

“We went to the church and we learnt that prayers are written in lots of different languages.”- Year 3

“We went to the gurdwara. They gave us food and we took our shoes off”.- Year 4

We organise the Religious Education curriculum by mapping objectives through each stage of learning. In this way we ensure that ‘knowledge builds on knowledge’, helping children to know more and remember more. Our curriculum forms our progression model.

Objectives are categorised using the following five headings:

Understand beliefs and teachings

This concept involves understanding the key teachings of various religions.

Understand practices and lifestyles

This concept involves understanding the day to day lives and practices of various religions.

Understand how beliefs are conveyed

This concept involves understanding how books, scriptures, readings and other important means of communication are used to convey beliefs.

Reflect

This concept involves an appreciation of how religion plays an important role in the lives of some people.

Understand values

This concept involves an appreciation of how many people place values as an important aspect of their lives.

These headings form our ‘threshold concepts’ which are key areas that allow children to build on knowledge, access and understand core concepts in religious education.
