Vision and Ethos

The teaching of a high quality, creative curriculum which ensures that all children are confident, successful, enthusiastic and independent learners is at the heart of everything we do at Muxton Primary School. We aim to empower children as life-long learners so that they relish the challenge of learning and thrive on the everyday learning experiences which we provide, both within and beyond the curriculum.

The use of the schools ‘DREAMS’ framework underpins our philosophy for teaching and learning where we aim to instil and embed the following:

Diversity: As a school with 83% White British intake, we take every opportunity to expose our children to a range of cultures and beliefs. We integrate story tellers, Fairtrade, celebrations of different faiths and visits from religious leaders into our curriculum. Each year group visit a different place of worship every year. We also organise Diversity Days each term to learn about different areas of the world that our pupils may not have much experience of.

Reading: Reading is at the centre of all that we do. Children listen to stories every day. We use carefully selected narratives to make links with the wider taught curriculum and create a sequence of reading progression; in year 4 for example, children read Journey to the River Sea while learning about rivers and the water cycle in Geography.

Effort & Engagement: Teachers insist on children’s effort and engagement in lessons to ensure a calm, purposeful working environment. We use ClassDojo to share children’s effort and engagement with parents via an app so that success is celebrated at home and at school.

Aspiration: We expect all pupils to aim high and expect the best for themselves. We believe Aspiration is more than what job you want in the future; it is about the type of person you want to be.

Mental wellbeing: We believe that pupils’ motivation and positive attitudes to learning are important predictors of attainment. The development of positive attitudes can also have a longer-term impact on how pupils approach learning tasks in later stages of education. Our inclusion team and Muxton Safeguarding Voice are integral to this aim.

Staying Safe: We expect a calm and orderly environment in the school and the classroom, as this is essential for pupils to be able to learn the setting of clear routines and expectations for the behaviour of pupils across all aspects of school life, not just in the classroom. There is a positive and respectful school culture in which staff know and care about pupils. MSV and E-Cadets.
