Welcome to Year 5

We hope everyone has had a fantastic summer holiday and looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Both classes will have have PE on a Monday and a Wednesday starting from Monday 9th September. Please ensure that PE kits are brought into school on both of these days.

Homework will be set on a Friday and is expected to be back in school by the following Wednesday. Children that finish it earlier are welcome to hand it in to their class teacher.

Finally, children will have the opportunity to do a speech on why they will be a good candidate for school council. This will take place this Friday (6th). Children are welcome to bring in a speech they have practiced or wrote at home. However, please not that due to most children wanting to give a speech, children will be limited to 60 seconds – so keep it brief!

Kind regards,

The Year 5 team.

Attendance and Leave During Term Time Government Update

Please see a copy of the below letter HERE

Dear Parents and Carers,

Attendance Update

You may or may not be aware that from August 19th, 2024, the Government have introduced a new ‘National Framework for Penalty Notices’. These will apply nationally, as well as across Telford and Wrekin from September 1st, 2024.

Whilst these changes are a few weeks away, I felt it was important to share the information we currently have available. Below are some of the significant changes you need to be aware of:

  • If your child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence (5 days) in a 10 school-week rolling period, you may be issued with a Penalty Notice. These 10 sessions may include any unauthorised absence, including leave in term time and do not have to be consecutive. Unauthorised absences are recorded for children who are late after the register has closed, do not provide medical evidence, or have not contacted school about your child’s absence.
  • Penalty Notices are increasing to £160 from September 2024. This can be reduced to £80 but only for the first Penalty Notice issued, if paid within 21 days – this reduction does not apply to any subsequent Penalty Notice that may have been sent.
  • Any 2nd Penalty Notice, to the same parent for the same child, issued within three years of the date of the first Penalty Notice will be charged at a flat rate of £160.
  • A third Penalty Notice will not be issued within a three-year rolling period, to the same parent for the unauthorised absence of the same child, – alternative action or legal measures will be taken for this offence.
  • In some circumstances a ‘Notice to Improve’ may be issued – However, a Notice to Improve will only be used in cases where support is appropriate. They will not be issued in cases of unauthorised leave in term time for holidays, where information for parents is included on school’s website or a simple warning by the school that a Penalty Notice could be issued if unauthorised leave in term time is taken will suffice.
  • Absence for leave in term times will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances – please note that holidays or extended leave for family visits cannot be considered as exceptional circumstances. We will be updating our Attendance Policy to reflect this.

I totally understand the challenges of the costs of holidays during the school holidays and of having extended family who live abroad, however the guidance from the DfE is clear that we cannot authorise these absences. As a school we will

always consider exceptional circumstances that sit outside these reasons on a case-by-case basis.

I also want to make you aware that there is a tightening of the guidelines around pupils arriving late. If pupils are consistently late this could contribute to their unauthorised absence levels and result in action being taken by the Local Authority. Maintaining a good level of attendance is not only essential for your child’s day to day learning but is also crucial in setting positive habits and mindsets for their future.

If you need help with your child’s attendance, please speak with a member of the school office team.

School Games GOLD Mark Award

We are delighted to announce that we, Muxton Primary School, have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We have taken part in lots of different sports festivals and competitions throughout the year. We have had over 188 different children representing the school in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce, and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to: Mr Perez and Miss Smith who have organised and led so many opportunities for our children this year. During the day, aside from leading PE lessons, they can often be found organising play opportunities on the astro pitch at lunchtime. They also lead various clubs after school, ensuring that we have a wide range of sports that our children can enjoy. We look forward to applying once again in 2025!

Sports sponsor

Dear Muxton community,
We are looking for sponsors to renew our sports wear to attend sports festivals and competitions. This would be mainly a set of 15 tops for KS1, 15 tops for Y3/Y4 and 15 tops for Y5/6. We are also looking for zip hoodies for the winter months.
If any of you are willing to sponsor or know of any local business that might be interested in helping this would be very much appreciated. Please get in contact with us using the following emali: asktheoffice@muxtonprimary.org.uk.
Many thanks
Muxton PE Team

A Huge Thank You!

Message from School Council!

A huge thank you to the PTFA for helping to raise money for our new play equipment ‘Ninja Zone’. We are slightly short of the amount required and our wonderful PTFA have made up the shortfall. Therefore, we are delighted to announce that the new equipment has been ordered and will be here when we return to school in September! As you are aware, all of the PTFA are volunteers and have given many hours to support school this year. Please see the photograph below of School Council members Rosa and Ferne presenting Naiomi Harper, Chair of the PTFA, with a bouquet of flowers and thank you cards. We would also like to thank all of you, the parents, for all of your support and donations towards PTFA events throughout the year.
